An absolutely gorgeous brown and white cowhide.
When you're looking for an extra large cowhide rug, it's good to know that their dimensions are typically given in square meters, so the exact feet and inches can vary a bit. Usually, you'll find them around 7.5' x 8' or sometimes a little larger or smaller. These large cowhide rugs are fantastic for your home, offering a wonderfully soft feel underfoot and bringing an undeniable sense of comfort and warmth to any room. Plus, they're generally very easy to take care of. To help your cowhide stay beautiful for a long time, it's best to place it in an area with less foot traffic.
If you notice the edges starting to curl, a simple fix is to lightly mist the curled edge with water and then place something heavy on it overnight to flatten it out. For more stubborn or really curled spots, you can actually trim them away cleanly with an exacto knife. Curling usually happens in dry climates or high-traffic zones within your home. Keep in mind that cowhides naturally have a few unique characteristics, so you might see small repairs made by the tannery. This is because tanning such a massive hide is a long and intricate process, and these slight imperfections truly add to the hide's natural charm and story.
Pets absolutely adore lounging on cowhides too! They're perfect for placing on cold floors, offering a cozy spot that helps keep your furry friends comfortable and adds warmth to your home.
Our cowhides, including those from Angus Oliver, are sourced from specific regions in Brazil and Columbia that are not rainforest areas. Each cowhide is carefully inspected for its quality upon arrival and then priced accordingly, ensuring you get a beautiful and ethical product.
It's important to us that all our cowhides are by-products of the meat industry. If these hides weren't tanned and transformed into beautiful rugs, they would most likely be discarded as waste. Our tannery shared an interesting fact with us: only about 6 percent of cows processed for meat actually have their hides tanned for rugs, and of those, only a tiny 3% are colors and patterns other than the common black and brown. This means you're getting a unique and sustainable piece when you choose one of our extra large cowhide rugs.
