When it comes to extra large cowhide rugs, measurements are typically given in square meters, so while exact dimensions might vary, you can generally expect an extra large cowhide to be around 7.5' x 8' or even bigger, though some could be just a tad smaller. These natural rugs truly elevate any home with a unique and luxurious feel, offering an incredibly soft underfoot cowhide experience and instantly creating an unmistakable aura cowhide of comfort and coziness. They're surprisingly easy to maintain, but to ensure your cowhide remains beautiful for years, it's best placed in areas with less foot traffic.

If you notice the edges starting to curl, a simple fix is to lightly mist the curled edge with water and then place something heavy on it overnight – that usually flattens it right out. For those really stubborn curled spots, you can even carefully trim them away with an X-Acto knife. Dry climates or high-traffic zones in your home are often the culprits behind this edge curling. It’s also completely normal for cowhides to have a few natural imperfections; sometimes the tannery even makes small, careful repairs during the extensive tanning process, which makes sense given how massive these hides are. These natural characteristics aren't flaws, but rather unique touches that add to the hide's charm and individuality.

Your pets will absolutely love these! Cowhides are perfect for them to lounge on, especially on cold floors, offering a warm and inviting spot that keeps your furry friends comfortable and cozy within your home.

At Angus Oliver, our cowhides, including our popular large cowhide options, are ethically and sustainably sourced from non-rainforest regions in Brazil and Colombia. Every single cowhide undergoes a rigorous quality inspection as soon as it arrives and is priced to reflect its premium quality, guaranteeing you receive an exceptional product.

It's important to know that all of our cowhides are a valuable by-product of the meat industry. Without the tanning process, these hides would most likely end up as waste. Our tannery shares that only about 6 percent of cows processed for meat have their hides tanned for rugs, and of those, a tiny fraction—just 3%—come in colors and patterns beyond the common black and brown. This makes the unique variations even more special.
