Life as a small business owner living in rural Alberta in 2026

Its becoming increasingly difficult to run a small business, when 'we' the small business relies on US owned social media platforms that are owned by absolutely terrible humans to share content so that folks can find us.

Canadian alternatives such as 'Gander Social' are slowly appearing, but they have years and years of catch up to do as far as creating platforms that operate smoothly.

Angus Oliver Sheepskins can currently be found on Gander Social, Pinterest, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram, however Meta (Facebook & Instagram) are planning to launch an AI campaign November 20th, 2026 that can easily steal information from any website that's connected to a Facebook or Instagram page. 

We are looking into this more, as I believe there are ways to block Meta from stealing our photos and content. 

I guess the obvious way to avoid this is to remove our website link from our Facebook and Instagram page, which would leave shoppers having to hunt our business down on Google and other search engines, which is not a smooth business move at all. The public like things that are easy, and convenient and we totally understand that.

The absolute best thing for our followers and website visitors to do is to find the 'subscribe' button in our footer menu, and subscribe with us. For 2027 we will switch things up a little and create a blog style post on a weekly basis so that we can share beautiful photos from our sewing studio and sheepskin shop. Promo discount codes will also be shared that have greater savings than the general public are offered.We simply cannot let the big corporations destroy small businessess, if you love us please subscribe!
