Extra Large Cowhide Rugs are uniquely sized by Square Meter, so while exact dimensions can vary, you can generally expect them to be quite substantial, typically around 7.5' x 8' or even larger. These beautiful large cowhide rugs are perfect for adding a touch of natural elegance to your home. Beyond their visual appeal, they offer a wonderfully soft feel underfoot, creating an unmistakable aura of comfort and coziness in any room. Caring for your cowhide is generally straightforward, but to maximize its lifespan and maintain its beauty, consider placing it in an area with lower foot traffic.
Should you notice any curling along the edges, a simple solution is to lightly mist the affected area with water and then place a heavy object on top overnight to flatten it out. For more stubborn or really curled spots, you can easily trim them away with an exacto knife without impacting the rug's overall look. Curling can sometimes occur in dry house climates or in high traffic areas. It's also worth noting that natural cowhides will typically have a few minor, inherent imperfections. Small repairs may have been expertly completed by the tannery during the long and complex tanning process, given the massive size of these hides. These natural characteristics and minor touch-ups actually contribute to the unique character and authenticity of each large cowhide.
Even your beloved pets will appreciate the comfort of a cowhide! They are excellent for placing on cold floors, providing a warm and inviting spot for pets to relax and helping to maintain overall comfort in your home.
Our cowhides are responsibly sourced from non-rainforest regions in Brazil and Colombia. Upon arrival, each extra large cowhide is meticulously inspected for quality before being priced accordingly, ensuring you receive a premium product.
Importantly, all of our cowhides are by-products of the meat industry. If these hides weren't carefully tanned into beautiful large cowhide rugs, they would most likely be discarded as waste. Our tannery has informed us that only about 6 percent of cows slaughtered for meat have their hides processed for rugs, and of those, only a small fraction—around 3%—feature colors and patterns other than the common black and brown, making some of our offerings truly unique.
