SMSP cowhides are typically quite substantial, ranging between 7' x 6' and 7' x 7' in size. These large cowhide rugs truly elevate any room, offering a remarkably soft feel underfoot and imbuing your home with an unmistakable aura of comfort and coziness. They're generally very easy to care for, and to help your cowhide last for years, simply place it in a low-traffic area.

If you notice any curling on the edges, a quick fix is to lightly mist the edge with water and then place something heavy on it overnight to flatten it out. For really stubborn curled spots, you can carefully trim them away with an X-Acto knife. This curling can sometimes happen in dry climates or high-traffic areas within your home. It's also normal for cowhides to have a few natural imperfections; sometimes the tannery has even made small repairs, as processing such a large cowhide through a long and complex tanning process is quite a feat. These minor details actually add to the unique character and authenticity of the hide, rather than detracting from it.

Pets absolutely adore sleeping on these cowhides too! They're fantastic for placing on cold floors, helping to maintain a comfortable temperature for your furry friends and adding an extra layer of warmth to your home.

Our cowhides are carefully sourced from non-rainforest regions in Brazil and Colombia. Each large cowhide is thoroughly inspected for quality upon arrival and priced accordingly, ensuring you receive a beautiful and valuable addition to your home.

It’s important to note that all of our cowhides are byproducts of the meat industry. If these hides weren't tanned into stunning cowhide rugs, they would most likely be discarded as waste. Our tannery even shared that only about 6 percent of cows slaughtered for meat have their hides tanned for rugs, and of those, a mere 3% exhibit colors and patterns beyond the typical black and brown. This means that each unique cowhide you bring into your home, like an Angus Oliver piece, is not only beautiful but also a sustainable choice, giving new life to a material that would otherwise be discarded.
