This curling is often a result of dry indoor climates or placement in high-traffic zones within the home. It's also normal for cowhides to have a few natural imperfections; given their massive size and the long, complex tanning process, minor repairs might have been completed by the tannery. All of our beautiful cowhides are byproducts of the meat industry. Without the tanning process that transforms them into these exquisite rugs, they would most likely be discarded as waste. Our tannery highlights that only a small fraction – just 6 percent – of cows slaughtered for meat have their hides tanned for rugs. And of those, a mere 3% exhibit colours and patterns beyond the typical black and brown, making a truly unique and vivid colours cowhide a rare find.
