Cowhides make beautiful rugs for your home, offering a surprisingly soft feel underfoot and bringing an unmistakable aura of comfort and coziness to any room. These natural rugs are generally very easy to care for, ensuring they remain a cherished part of your decor. To maximize the longevity of your cowhide, we recommend placing it in an area with lower foot traffic, preserving its pristine condition.
Should you notice any curling along the edges, a simple solution is to lightly mist the affected area with water, then place a heavy object on top overnight to gently flatten it out. For more stubborn, really curled spots, you can simply trim them away with an X-Acto knife without compromising the hide's integrity. Curling can sometimes occur in drier home climates or in high-traffic zones. It's also normal for cowhides to have a few natural imperfections; given their massive size and the long, complex tanning process, minor repairs may have been expertly completed by the tannery. These subtle characteristics only add to the unique character and authenticity of each hide.
Pets, like humans, absolutely adore cowhides! They are great for placing on cold floors, providing a warm and inviting spot for your furry friends to lounge, which helps maintain overall comfort in your home.
Our cowhides are responsibly sourced from non-rainforest regions in Brazil and Columbia, ensuring ethical practices. Upon arrival, each cowhide undergoes a thorough inspection for quality, and is then priced accordingly to reflect its unique attributes.
All of our cowhides are valuable by-products of the meat industry. If they weren't expertly tanned into stunning rugs, they would regrettably be discarded as waste. Our tannery has informed us that only a small fraction, specifically 6%, of cows slaughtered for meat have their hides processed for rugs. Even more exclusive is the fact that only 3% of those cowhides feature colors and patterns other than solid black or brown, making each patterned hide a truly unique find. You might even discover a rare large cowhide from an Angus Oliver breed amongst our collection, adding even more distinctive character to your living space.
